Before “You Better Call Saul”, Saul Bass was the man. An iconic graphic designer and filmmaker, mostly known for his design of film posters and movie title sequences.
Mr. Bass had a 40-year career working for some of Hollywood’s greatest filmmakers, including Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Otto Preminger, and Martin Scorsese. He became renowned in Hollywood after he created the title sequence for Otto Preminger’s “The Man with the Golden Arm”. Mr. Bass designed effective and memorable title sequences for Alfred Hitchcock, and designed a new type of kinetic typography, for “North by Northwest”, “Vertigo” and “Psycho”.
I remember Mr. Bass from studying his most iconic corporate logos in college, including the original AT&T “bell” logo and the redesigned “globe” logo from 1983. He also designed Continental Airlines’ “jetstream” logo and United Airlines’ “tulip” logo which have become some of the most recognized logos of the era.
Graphic Design is better off because of Saul Bass. You can’t call on Saul anymore, but if you are in need of iconic, creative graphic designs, you can call on Mark. Or email him at Mark@ReganGraphicDesign.com.
