The Importance of Choosing the Right Font
According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, Typography is defined as ” the design, or selection, of letter forms to be organized into words and sentences to be disposed in blocks of type as printing on a page.”
Yes, before the computer came to be, typography was an art. A craft really. There weren’t as many typefaces as there are today.
Many of today’s fonts are based on the original fonts of years ago. Gone are the days of calculating the number of letters that the typographer had to place in a “slug” to have something printed.
Today things are a bit easier, but with power comes responsibility. Choosing the correct font will convey the message you want your viewer to understand. Be bold or be gentle. The chosen font can help you set the tone for your message, logo, ad, direct mail piece or your package design.
As you can see, there are a myriad of choices to be made when font shopping. Find your message, set your tone and choose the right font.
